Boss Left To Rue Missed Opportunities

24 October 2016

Steve Davis disappointed that Alex couldn't take first half chances

Steve Davis was left to rue missed chances as Crewe Alexandra slipped to their first home defeat of the season to Yeovil Town. The Alex were undone by a Matt Dolan direct free-kick just after the hour mark and on this occasion we were unable to find an equaliser.

The Railwaymen had been the better side in the first half and had enough chances to have gone in at the interval at least a couple of goals to the good, with Chris Dagnall going awfully close with a splendid effort that struck the underside of the crossbar.

After the 1-0 home defeat, Steve said: “We created good chances, especially in the first half, but we just couldn’t find that goal. We didn’t create as many chances in the second half and we just rushed a few things in the final third.

“We needed to be more careful and make sure our decision making was better. Daggers hit the bar twice and we had other chances but it was almost not going to be our day.

“If that is the case, then we should have drawn the game, got the 0-0 and made sure we got a point but we have given away a silly free-kick away and we have ended up losing the game.

He added: “So from the one real chance they had we have lost but overall we had enough chances to have won it ourselves.”
