Boss After Quality Improvement

24 October 2016

Steve targets better quality in the final third after frustrating home defeat to Glovers.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is looking for an improvement in quality after Yeovil produced a classic smash-and-grab performance on his side on Saturday. Crewe were beaten by a Matt Dolan free-kick on 62 minutes and although we created enough chances to have certainly collected something from the contest, we slipped to our third defeat of the season.

The Alex boss was pleased with the creativity of youngster George Cooper, especially in the first half, but he is looking for others to step-up when Crewe find themselves up against a rigid defence.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I thought George (Cooper) was really dynamic in the first half and he put some excellent deliveries in from crosses and free-kicks. There was one ball that Jon (Guthrie) flicked on and we had two going in at the gar post but they just couldn’t get a touch.

“George looked our best bet to unlock their defence but we needed more than just him. We need others to step up as well. We have got Alex back now after he has been out for a few weeks, the two strikers can create something.

“We need the midfielders to become more creative and the full-backs to produce better quality when they are in the final third.

He added: “We had plenty of moments but we just needed that final end product. It certainly wasn’t for the lack of trying. We just needed an improvement in quality in the final third but we have the players who can do that.”
