Bingham Set To Keep Central Midfield Place

13 October 2016

Boss impressed with Billy’s Luton performance

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has suggested that midfielder Billy Bingham will retain his place in the starting XI.

The midfielder made his first start at Luton at the weekend since the defeat at Cheltenham at the end of August & impressed as The Alex gained a valuable draw at the much-fancied Hatters.

Bingham came into the side after James Jones left the camp to link-up with Scotland Under 21’s for their double-header & the boss has hinted that Jonah may have a battle on his hands to get back into the side.

Steve said: “Billy did well on Saturday & has done enough to keep his place. I don’t envisage any changes in that department.

“I told Jonah before he left that I was pleased for him getting the call-up, but that he could come back & not have a place. He understood that & said it’s fine & that he was prepared to fight for his place.

“That’s the sort of attitude we want, but he understood by going & being away that if somebody came into the side & did well then they would stay in the team.

“That’s just me. I always think that if you play well then you deserve to stay in the team. I have no favouritism with anybody.”
