Steve Davis says fringe players are struggling to step-up to the challenge.
Steve Davis admitted that his side need their senior players back as soon as possible following our FA Cup exit to Cheltenham Town. Crewe were heavily beaten 4-1 by Gary Johnson’s side and the Alex boss says that the result and the performance reflects that we find it hard to cope with a number of injuries.
Crewe currently have five players struggling with injuries and that list grew last night after winger Alex Kiwomya aggravated a hamstring muscle and had to be withdrawn at half-time. He remains a major doubt for the weekend trip to Barnet.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We will all take the blame for what happened and we will go through it. We have to dust ourselves off and go again at the weekend.
“Our recent results show that our best 11 would pick ourselves and when we miss them when they are not in the team. The other ones in the squad have to come in and do well to really challenge them when they are fit. At the moment they are not doing that.
He added: “We didn’t have too many men out there against Cheltenham and we need those senior players back as soon as possible.”
