Steve: "One Or Two Injury Concerns"

7 November 2016

Boss says he will rotate his squad with six games in 17 days coming up.

Defender Ollie Turton and forward Chris Dagnall are likely to be rested for tomorrow’s final Checkatrade Trophy Group B encounter with Chesterfield after being forced off with injury against Cheltenham at the weekend.

Dagnall failed to re-appear for the second half at Whaddon Road after suffering with a tight calf. He was replaced by Daniel Udoh in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Gary Johnson’s side.

Ollie Turton was also forced off in the second half with a tight hamstring to be replaced by youngster Perry NG. It is unlikely that neither will be risked against Chesterfield tomorrow evening.

Steve said: "We have one or two concerns, I think that was Ollie's 90th consecutive game so you're always going to get something eventually, but I thought Perry did very well when he came on.I have no qualms about him.

“I preferred Danny (Udoh) to Callum (Saunders) who's just coming back from a knee injury which is why I preferred him on this occasion, but that doesn't mean I won't play him at some point.

"The squad is very important to us and they've been playing the under-23 games and training every day with us for these moments.

"A couple of little injuries have presented them with their chance."

Midfielder Billy Bingham is also struggling with a tight calf and he didn’t travel to Cheltenham at the weekend.

The boss said: "He's another one with a tight calf. It's more of a nerve thing than anything and we didn't want to be in a position where we brought him on and he breaks down and then he's out for a substantial amount of time.

"The cautious decision was to leave Billy behind."
