Steve Impressed By League Leaders

11 November 2016

Boss wants his side to step-up to the challenge against runaway leaders Plymouth.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says that this weekend’s clash with league leaders Plymouth Argyle will be a great marker for his team. Although we won’t necessary be at full strength due to the injuries to strikers Ryan Lowe and Chris Dagnall, the Alex boss wants to try to end the Pilgrims impressive 13 game unbeaten run in League Two.

Davis has been impressed by the start made by Derek Adams’ side this season and he wants his Crewe team to make home advantage count as we try and retain our position in the play-off places.

Ahead of our intriguing home game, Steve said: “Plymouth have had a fantastic start to the season and they have a good points lead at the top of the league. They have been the most consistent side in the league and have a successful shape and system.

“They are solid and organised. They have good experience in the squad and good movement upfront where their front four rotate. They have two midfield sitters that allow the full-backs to get forward and they play some good patterns in the final third. We know they will be a good side and they will be looking to keep their run going.

“We have only lost three games ourselves. We have drawn too many, while a team like Plymouth has won those narrow games. It is a top half game and we want the points to cement our place in the top places. We don’t want to be dipping in and out. We want the stability of being in there and the only way you do that is by winning matches.

He added: “It will be a good challenge for us and a good game. There should be a good atmosphere and as a player you enjoy games like these, a chance to test yourself against the team at the top of the league and at home.”
