Boss says senior players are given extended rest periods if needs be.
Steve Davis says his older players are benefitting from personalised training regimes during the week. The Crewe Alexandra boss has been willing to grant his older players such as Ryan Lowe more recovery time to make sure they are in perfect condition for matchday. Lowe, 38, for instance undertakes yoga sessions to help his flexibility and recovery.
The Alex boss says the young players understand and appreciate the situation regarding the more senior players.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “As you get older, you do need more time to recover and that is something we take seriously here. We know that Ryan Lowe will need more recovery time than say George Cooper.
“The senior players know and trust their bodies. They know how to look after themselves and if that means they need a bit more time then they will have it. If it helps them for the weekend then it’s the best thing to do.
“We monitor them through the week and then make a decision. That is what we did with Ryan last week when he was struggling with a tight hamstring. Our aim was to make sure he had a chance to play at Leyton Orient.
“The young players understand that the older ones need more time to recover, so they are available for us.”
