Boss unhappy that fouls cost us in Checkatrade Trophy exit

Steve Davis was disappointed that two fouls was again our undoing against Chesterfield on Tuesday evening. It was a stern learning curve for youngster Perry NG as he committed a foul Reece Mitchell in the build-up to Jay O’Shea’s opening goal and he was then adjudged to have fouled Ricky German late on for the decisive penalty. It was soft with the Alex defender hardly touching him.

Crewe were also punished at home by Yeovil when Zoumana Bakayogo committed a foul 30 yards from goal and Matt Dolan planted his direct free-kick past Ben Garratt.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Chesterfield didn’t really get in behind us until towards the end of the game when we were chasing an equaliser and I didn’t think Ben (Garratt) had a lot to do but we have conceded from a second phase after giving away a poor free-kick and then conceded a penalty in the final ten minutes.

“Perry was rash in his challenge for the opening goal and he has booked for it and then we didn’t pick the players up around the box and O’Shea showed some quality by passing it into the corner.

“The penalty was soft. Perry hardly touched him really but the player has gone down and the referee has given it. We were punished by two mistakes in a game that didn’t have too many chances.”
