Hollands Is Unsung Hero

1 November 2016

Steve says midfielder does a lot of unnoticed things to aid the team.

Steve Davis says his experienced midfielder Danny Hollands has to continue to do what he is doing, if he is to land himself a new contract offer in January. Hollands has been a real unsung hero for the club this season and the former Portsmouth and Bournemouth midfielder has earned praise for doing a reliable job for the team.

Hollands, 30, signed a short term deal with the club in late August and will go out of contract in early January. The Alex boss says that Hollands future will be discussed over the next few weeks but he has been pleased with his vastly experienced midfield man.

Steve said: “We haven’t really discussed Danny’s future yet, but we will over the next couple of months. As we enter December and January, that is sure to accelerate.

“We appreciate the job he does for the team and I think people are seeing why we were keen to bring him here. His performances are showing signs of that and Cheltenham aside when he came unstuck, his passing has been reliable.

“He can look to pass forward more and we are working with him on that, but Danny does a lot of good things for the team that may go unnoticed by many. He has good qualities. His positional sense is good and he reads the game well.

“Danny makes good decisions and he adds more experience. He also has height which helps us in both boxes at set-plays.

“He scored a goal against Exeter when he broke forward and I’m sure he would like a few more goals but we have asked him to sit in a bit and allow Jonah (James Jones) to get forward more.

He added: “Danny helps with the balance of the team and he has that experience of playing higher than this league. I’m sure he has enjoyed it so far and we will see where we are over the next couple of months.”
