Davis Wants Home Advantage To Count

15 November 2016

Boss prepares for Cup replay with Gary Johnson's Cheltenham Town.

Crewe boss Steve Davis is hoping that home advantage will be a decisive factor in deciding who will be facing non-league Sutton United in the second round of the FA Cup. Crewe face Cheltenham Town in a replay this evening (KO 7.45pm) and Davis is hoping that being back at Gresty Road will give his team more space to exploit the final third.

Ahead of tonight’s FA Cup tie, Steve said of the opposition: “Cheltenham are a big side, they are very organised and Gary has them playing in a system that works for them. They are a tough side to play against and hard to penetrate.

“We are at home and our playing surface will be better than what we played on in the first game. They have had a lot of games on their pitch already this season.

“Our surface should be better and we will have our crowd with us. We need to get the ball down and play. Hopefully, there will be space and we can play more football.

“There is no pressure to get league points, but there is a pressure to get through the tie. We want to get through and have the chance of taking on Sutton. We have a home game we want to win and we want to win it to build some momentum. “
