22 November 2016

Goals from Kiwoyma and Jones seal three home points.

minute goal from Rhys Turner. thCrewe Alexandra secured their first home win in eight games after a deserved three points against Morecambe. The Railwaymen had to show some real character to come from behind after conceding a 7

The Railwaymen were ahead by the interval after goals from winger Alex Kiwomya and midfielder James Jones.

Chances were few and far between in the second half with Morecambe’s best chance to salvage a point falling to their leading scorer Cole Stockton but he couldn’t keep his close range header down.

Ben Garratt did not have too much to do as Crewe build on the point collected at Barnet’s Hive Stadium on Saturday.

Callum Saunders and Tom Lowery, who both played at Barnet at the weekend dropped to the bench to make way.  As expected forwards Alex Kiwomya and Chris Dagnall returned to the Crewe Alexandra starting line-up. Winger Kiwomya returned after a bout of illness and Dagnall overcame his calf strain to resume his partnership with Ryan Lowe.

With Zoumana Bakayogo still out through injury, Perry Ng continued at left-back.

minute. A Crewe attack broke down after Turton’s cross was cut out and the Shrimps broke quickly and Rhys Turner showed great pace before unleashing an unstoppable shot past Ben Garratt. It was a fantastic strike. thIt was Jim Bentley’s Morecambe side who took the lead early on after we were hit on the counter-attack in the 7

Crewe tried to respond almost immediately but Cooper’s driven shot was blocked after he had turned swiftly on a pass from Turton.

After a scrappy beginning, the Alex began to really impose their passing game on the game. The decision making became more effective and Jones was lucky to just over hit a pass into the run of the pacey Kiwomya.

goal of a fantastic season from a personal point of view.thAnother excellent passing move saw Crewe draw level on 18 minutes. Jones was involved again and his through ball found the run of Lowe in the right hand channel. The veteran striker produced a tempting low cross into the six yard box and his strike partner Dagnall drew a fine save from Barry Roche but Kiwomya was there to take advantage of the rebound for his 7

Boosted by the goal, Crewe were on top. Lowe half volleyed a decent effort into the gloves of Roche from 20 yards before the threat of Turton saw him whip over a dangerous cross that only needed a positive touch to trouble Roche again.

Morecambe were a threat with the in-form Cole Stockton and Turner and they were awarded a number of free-kicks close to our box. Rose’s deliveries were a threat but he hit one into the mid-drift of a team-mate before Garratt was called upon to push away a good effort from Stockton. The Morecambe forward also headed a Turner cross over the bar.

On his return to the team, Dagnall was sharp. A smart turn from a throw-in saw him fire just wide.

Crewe took the lead with three minutes of the first half remaining. Turton, who was a superb outlet down the right hand side was involved again. His initial low cross was kept alive by Dagnall and when the right-back crossed again, the run of Jones gave him a yard to touch it past Roche. It was the midfielders' fourth goal of the season and the advantage going into the break was no more than Crewe deserved.

It could have been even better but captain lifted his shot over after Turton again found him inside the box.

There was still enough time for Morecambe to have another chance from a free-kick but Garratt was positioned superbly to bring a shot from Rose into his mid-drift.

Early on in the second half, Lowe fired a shot into the side netting before Kiwomya showed great skill to trick his way past Liam Wakefield but his shot was straight into the gloves of Roche. The rebound didn’t drop kindly for Harry Davis.

Morecambe had a great chance to equalise after the ball was allowed to travel far too much inside the Crewe box and Garratt was forced to save a shot from Peter Murphy with his legs. It was a good chance for the Morecambe skipper.

Stockton then headed a shot over Turner’s cross before the former Crewe player Lee Molyneux was introduced for the visitors. Ellison soon came on too as Morecambe chased the game.

Ryan Edwards was booked for a foul on Dagnall and Liam Wakefield likewise for a deliberate handball as Cooper threatened to get away on the half way line.

The fresh legs on Lowery and Saunders was introduced for the returning Dagnall and Kiwomya.

Saunders’ first involvement saw him link up well with Lowe but he couldn’t turn in his effort home at the far post. Crewe needed a third goal to seal the points. Wintle was introduced late on for Cooper.

chance from a corner but Wakefield couldn’t get his header on target. Crewe were control of the game and looking good for the win but Morecambe had a late

.Lowe and then Saunders went close to turning home a Davis knockback late on that would have made the last few minutes more comfortable
