Steve wants his players to hit the level of performance again in Cup tie.
Steve Davis was encouraged by his side’s performance against league leaders Plymouth Argyle on Saturday and he wants to take the positives from the display into our FA Cup replay against Cheltenham tomorrow evening.
The Alex took the lead against the Pilgrims through winger Alex Kiwomya and then George Cooper saw his penalty saved before Derek Adams’ side mounted a fine comeback at Gresty Road. Despite Davis having a depleted squad to choose from, Plymouth were made to work extremely hard for their three points and Davis says the players should take confidence from the way we played o the day.
The Crewe boss told the club’s official web-site: “Saturday’s performance against the league leaders was very positive. I thought we played well, especially in the first half where I thought we controlled it.
“I would be more disappointed and concerned if we were losing games and not playing well. We are creating chances and the confidence is still good in the camp.
“When that little bit of luck turns in our favour, I am sure we will begin to get our rewards. We know we should have more points than we currently have but we have made a relatively good start and are handily placed in sixth spot.
“I’m sure it will be a different type of game against Cheltenham on Tuesday night but we have to cope with that. They will be more physical than Plymouth were, so it’s up to us to get the ball down and play. We won't go toe-to-toe with them because playing that way doesn't suit us.
The boss added: “We have to take the positives from the way we played against Plymouth, who are running away with our league at the moment. We played some terrific football at times and I couldn’t ask for any more from them, especially with the experienced players we had missing.”
