Boss On Cheltenham Cup Tie

3 November 2016

Steve says players know what to expect having already played at Whaddon Road this season.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says having played Cheltenham at Whaddon Road already this season, his side will know what to expect this weekend but he admits that it will be another tough test against Gary Johnson’s Robins.

Crewe were beaten 2-0 back in late August, as Cheltenham inflicted our first league defeat of the season and Davis is hoping his side can avenge that loss by progressing in the FA Cup.

Ahead of our trip to Cheltenham, Steve told crewealex.net: “We have played Cheltenham already this season so we know what to expect but it won’t make it any easier. They beat us 2-0 earlier in the season. We made some errors for their goals and although we played well in the second half, we just couldn’t break them down.

“They defended well and on the day they took their chances and we didn’t. It is a tight pitch and we found it hard to find space and get round them. We had a lot of possession but didn’t create too many clear cut chances.

“We will both be looking to get through and then hopefully look forward to reaching the third round when the bigger clubs come into it.

“We regard the FA Cup very highly and know the importance it can have on the club’s finances and what it means for the supporters.”
