Utility Players Worth Weight In Gold

18 May 2016

Steve Davis says players like Turton and Ng vital for any squad.

Steve Davis says utility players such as Ollie Turton and Perry Ng are worth their weight in gold when it comes to building a squad for next season.

Turton, who captained the club on occasions last season, didn’t miss a game during our campaign and played both as a right-back and a central midfielder.

The youngster Perry Ng, has suffered with some niggling injuries this season but his versatility can see him operate in both full-back roles, as a centre-half or as a holding midfield player.

There is debate on which position bets suits Turton and Ng, but Davis is just happy to have players who can play various positions if injury or suspensions ever occur.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Everyone has got an opinion on players and their best positions. Ollie was a right-back as a kid and we converted him into a midfielder because of his energy levels.

“It is just good to have that versatility in the squad because you sometimes need them to switch positions if we suffer a lot of injuries or someone is suspended. Ollie had to play in midfield against Burton and he did fine, like we knew he would.

“Ollie listens and works hard every day in training. He has a great attitude and it is an option to play in midfield if needs be.

“Perry is still young and learning the game. He has some to come physically and he is still growing. We are mindful of that and have had to be careful with him this season as he makes that step up.

“He is a player we have high hopes for and he can slot in a number of different positions.”
