Alex boss says it was important for players to remain out on the pitch and applaud fans for their support.
Steve Davis says the Alex squad and staff wanted to thank the Crewe fans for their fantastic support during a difficult season and that is why everyone remained on the pitch to applaud the fans following the conclusion Doncaster Rovers game. A large number of Crewe fans remained behind to clap the Alex players and it certainly didn’t go unnoticed by Steve and his staff.
Following our 3-1 win over Doncaster, Steve told crewealex.net: “I think we always try and show our appreciation to the fans, especially when they travel miles to come and watch us. We know that it costs a lot of money to travel away and we have had too many disappointing days this season.
“It was important we showed the fans our appreciation at our final home game because they have been fantastic with us this season. They have suffered with us and we wanted to show that we are grateful that they have stuck with us.
“We usually go in and come back out but because of the situation with Doncaster and them being all but relegated, we were advised by the police and the health and safety people to stay out on the pitch and thank the fans that way.
Steve added: “We are extremely grateful for the support we have had and I just hope they stay with us for some better times ahead.”
