Jon Guthrie has 'cracked it' after consistent season in League One.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he is excited by the potential on offer in his young squad - but he admits that you sometimes have to wait for that potential to materialise.

Davis points to the example of defender Jon Guthrie during last season as someone we had to remain patient with to see him emerge as a regular in the first team.

Steve Davis: “There is a lot of potential here but sometimes you have to wait for that to come through. It can happen at different times because players develop at different rates. You have to be patient because some will be late developers.

“If you look at Jon (Guthrie) this season, he has improved and gone on. It has taken him almost four seasons but he looks like he has cracked it. We have seen that improvement in him and he has become more confident and vocal.”
