Chairman: "Recruitment Has To Improve"

26 May 2016

John Bowler says right players have to start arriving at the club.

Chairman John Bowler has told Crewe Alex PlayerHD that the club’s recruitment policy has to improve to provide the platform for our young players to flourish.

The club’s board of directors have discussed at length our failures in recruitment over the last few seasons and Bowler states that due diligence will have to spot on as we look to bring more experience into the Football Club.

A number of recruited players over the last few seasons have not worked out with the likes of Lee Molyneux, Thierry Audel, Scott Shearer and Vadaine Oliver quickly moved on after failing to have the desired impact.

John told the club’s official web-site: “Our recruitment over the past few years has not been good enough. It hasn’t delivered what we have wanted and it is something we have assessed and need to improve on.

“It is not easy and it is difficult to attract experienced players from the Premier League or the Championship nowadays because of the vast increase in wages as a result of the television deals. Those players don’t drop down the leagues like they used to.

“Saying that we have got to make sure that the ones we do bring in are right for us. We have to start getting more right than wrong, so the basis is there for our younger players to flourish.

He added: “We cannot afford to jump in and make mistakes. We have make sure our homework is spot on and invest wisely.”
