Steve Davis on Burton Albion's amazing season so far...

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has expressed his admiration for Burton Albion’s rise to the top of League One following their promotion last season. The Brewers have built some real momentum and even losing their previous manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to Championship side QPR at the end of the year has not affected their progress.

Nigel Clough has returned to the Pirelli Stadium following relatively successful spells at Derby County and Sheffield United and the transition has been almost flawless.

Ahead of our clash this weekend, Steve said: “It is an important game for both sides and we will be approaching it trying to get the three points. They would be a massive three points for us.

“Burton have had a fantastic season and are well placed to go on and challenge for a place in the Championship. It would be a fantastic achievement for a club of their size and resources.

“Nigel has come back and just carried on from they were doing. They have a great work ethic both in and out of possession and that has been key to it. Of course, there is more to their game than that. They are hard to beat and do not concede a lot of goals. They do not score in abundance though but they have players who can hurt you.

“They work very hard and there is not a lot of space through the middle of them. It is hard for any team they come up against and we know that we will have to pay to our full potential if we are to win the game.

“Nigel has not done a lot of things differently and they have had some luck with injuries as well, that you need. They have been able to keep a consistent team and use the majority of the same players. “
