Injuries Have Come At Bad Time For Gills

9 March 2016

Boss previews Gillls encounter.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis believes that Justin Edinburgh’s Gillingham side have been affected due to injuries to some of their key players, but they have the capability to bounce back into the automatic spots. The Gills are currently five points behind second placed Wigan Athletic and although it will be tough to break into that top two, they is still plenty to play for in the decisive run-in.

This weekend, Crewe travel to the Priestfield Stadium on the back of an encouraging record in Kent. Crewe lost 2-0 last season but have won on their previous four occasions before that. Crewe need a first win since beating Rochdale 2-0 on 6th February to claw back some points on the clubs above us in the relegation zone.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Gillingham, Steve told us: “Gillingham have had a good season. They had a good start but some results have not quite gone their way of late. That has coincided with some injuries to some of their key players like Dack and Egan.

“They have recently got Doug Loft back from injury, so that’s a boost for them. When you have key players missing it does affect the team and it makes a difference if things are going against you.

“They will be looking to get back on track and those coming into the team will be looking to make an impact, so we know it will be a tough game.

Steve added: “We have enjoyed some joy there in the past and it would be a massive boost for us to do that again this weekend.”
