Having Trio Back With Be A Major Boost

3 March 2016

Davis, Ray and Bingham all be given game time against Leeds U-21s this afternoon

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says that the return of trio Harry Davis, George Ray and Billy Bingham will give his squad a major boost going into the final stretch of the season. All three are expected to be given game time for the club’s Under-21 side this afternoon when Leeds United will be the visitors to the club’s training complex at Reaseheath.

Lauri Dalla Valle and Ryan Wintle are also making progress following their injuries but won’t be involved today.

Davis (knee) and Ray (ankle) are returning from long-term injuries, while midfielder Bingham has struggled for large chunks of the season with a troublesome hamstring.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We will be aiming to give Harry, George and Billy more game time today, be it 45 minutes or an hour just to improve their match fitness. They are fit and have been back training with us but they just need that match sharpness back.

“If they can come through unscathed and then train again tomorrow then they have a chance of being involved in the game on Saturday in some capacity, be it starting or providing cover from the bench.

The boss added: “Having those three more senior players back will help the squad. They have missed a lot of football this season, three or four months and we do not have the time to do a mini pre-season, so they have to get their match fitness from playing for the Under-21s at the moment.”
