Game Management Has To Be Better

11 March 2016

Steve Davis says his side have to handle going in front of games better.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he wants his Crewe Alexandra to possess better game management if we are to go ahead at Gillingham this weekend. The Alex boss has reiterated the importance of building on a lead after his side have won just six games after taking the lead in 17 games. He has expressed the need to not necessarily protect what we have but to try and score more than one.  That was certainly the case when we recorded our last win back in early February when scoring two first half goals against Rochdale.

Ahead of this weekend’s game at the Priestfield Stadium, Steve told us: “We want to win every game we can and that has been the case throughout the season, but we know we have to win the majority of our games now.

“We will have a right go and be fully committed to try and come back with three points. We have shown this season that we are not great at going on to win games if we take the lead. It has happened too many times and we have done better in games when we have gone behind.

“We have to learn from letting the lead slip and it is something we have looked at and spoken to the players about. We need to handle that situation better and that is everyone.

“If we can perform to our potential then we have a great chance. We have done well there in the past and we like playing there. We will approach it in the same way and try and cause them some problems.

“The players know they have to win the majority of our remaining games but I they can play like they did at Southend and take more of our chances then anything is possible.”
