Davis: "We Have To Get Over Gills Disappointment"

15 March 2016

Steve Davis looking for vast improvement on early showing against Gillingham.

Steve Davis says his players have to quickly erase the disappointment of losing 3-0 at Gillingham last weekend. The end result arguably flattered the Gills but the Alex boss was hugely disappointed with our first half showing at the Priestfield Stadium.

Thankfully for the Railwaymen, the results of the teams in and around us at the bottom of the table went in our favour.

The Alex boss told us: “I was disappointed with the way we played in the first-half on Saturday and we made that clear to the players at half-time and after the game about the performance and the result. We did improve in the second half after we had adjusted and took some more risks.

“We felt we could get something there. Our record has been good in Gillingham over the last few years but we got what our first half deserved, which was nothing.

“We created some good chances in the second half and gambled a bit by going 3v3 but we had some chances to equalise at 1-0 down but didn’t take them. We needed to be clinical to get back into the game and we didn’t do that. We need players to step up and start to chip in with some goals.

“We were disappointed because we felt we could have got something if we had been able to stamp our authority on the game and we didn’t do it. “
