Davis: "Start Has To Be Brighter"

17 March 2016

Boss says team cannot afford to start slowly against Blackpool this weekend.

Steve Davis is seeking a bright start to Saturday’s game against Blackpool. The Alex will be looking to win their first game since defeating Rochdale 2-0 back in early February and Davis says that the first 20 minutes against our fellow strugglers could be vital.

Crewe have conceded too many early goals this season and Davis wants that to change against Neil McDonald’s Seasiders this weekend.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It is no secret that we have been unhappy with some of the starts we have made to games. Some games we have started well and others we haven’t and found ourselves one or two goals down.

“We always aim to start the games well and to get on the front foot. That helps you settle into the game and keeps the opposition fans quiet, especially away from home. We have not managed to do that enough this season.

“The warms up are good and I when I ask James (Collins) how the players have been or I’ve watched them myself, the players are sharp and ready.

He added: “Then they cross the white line and it doesn’t go according to plans sometimes. We have made mistakes and then we are chasing the game. It happened at Gillingham last weekend and it is something we need to improve on in the remaining 10 games to give ourselves a better chance of winning games.”
