Davis: "No Point Dwelling On Blackpool Defeat"

22 March 2016

Boss says players have to get themselves back up for Easter encounters.

Steve Davis says his squad have thoroughly gone through the video of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Blackpool and are now focussing on the vital Easter double header against Sheffield United on Good Friday and then Bradford City on Monday.

Crewe desperately need to make up for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Blackpool and the Alex boss believes we are capable of surprising the Blades again at Bramall Lane. Crewe won 2-1 there last season thanks to Ryan Colclough’s stunning injury time winner and the Alex boss wants someone else to stay up to the plate on Friday and produce moments of quality.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “There is no point dwelling too much on Saturday’s result. We were hugely disappointed that we let a game that we should have won slip away. The players were very down afterwards. Some of them didn’t move for an hour and there were some tears in there. It was more a feeling of disbelief than anything.

“But we have to move on and move on quickly. There is no point waving the white flag. We have to keep going.

“We all went through the DVD of the game and picked parts out where we could have should have done better. We were disappointed with the goals we conceded and the errors cost us.

“We have now have two tough games in a short space of time. We know we need the points to make up that gap. We have to have that belief. We won at Sheffield United last season when Ryan (Colclough) produced that moment of quality to score a terrific goal right at the death. Now we need someone to step forward for us and produce some quality again.”
