Boss: "We Have To Remain Calm"

17 March 2016

Steve Davis wants his players to remain calm inside the pressure cooker of Saturday's vital clash.

Steve Davis wants his Crewe Alexandra players to avoid being embroiled in a ‘relegation scrap’ against fellow strugglers Blackpool at Gresty Road this weekend. The Railwaymen will be looking to claw some points back on Neil McDonald’s side as we aim to get out of the bottom four as soon as possible.

With just ten games of the season remaining, Davis appreciates that the pressure is growing on his side to get three points from the majority of our remaining games but he still wants his players to play their natural game.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Blackpool, Steve told crewealex.net: “I went out to watch Blackpool and Oldham on Tuesday night. The football can be a bit frantic at this stage of this season.

“Players don’t want to be the one making a mistake that could prove costly. It is all very tight and games can become a battle and a scrap.

“You have to compete and fight at certain stages of games but we still want to try and get the ball down and play our football. We are not as good as some sides when it comes to the other side of the game, so we won’t stray from what we are trying to do and aim do things that is not in our game.

He added: “We need our players to be brave by getting on the ball and trying to make things happen. It is about staying calm but competitive when we need to be.”
