Boss: "Udoh Can Play Upfront On His Own"

Steve says Ilkeston youngster could provide us with a different option.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says that his new signing Daniel Udoh possesses the ability to operate as a lone front man. The 19-year-old has signed until the summer of 2018 and Davis is a keen admirer of his work rate and ability with both feet.

Udoh has been handed the number 39 shirt for the first-team squad and Davis has not ruled out using him at first-team level this season if he can adjust quickly to life as a professional.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It is something he wants badly, his next step now is to progress from that level. He's hungry and prepared to do what it takes to become a good player.

“He can play up on his own, he has that ability to occupy centre halves and work the channels. He can come off, he can link when he wants to, but I'd prefer him to get in behind.

“He's two-footed, can shoot with both feet which is a great advantage, and he has a great attitude with a good background. What more attributes do you need?

“We don’t have one like him in the club. Lauri could play up front on his own if needs be, so Daniel would give us something different.”
