Boss Rues Lost Points From Winning Positions

9 March 2016

Crewe have led in 17 games this season but have only gone on to win 6.

Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra side just need to discover that little bit of quality to turn our recent draws into vital wins. The Railwaymen have certainly become harder to beat over the last couple of months, losing just two of our last 10 matches, but seven of those encounters have ended in draws.

The latest of them came against the league leaders Burton Albion on Saturday - but due to our league position, the boss and his players were disappointed to have only registered a point after Marcus Haber had given us the lead.

Steve told crewealex.net: “If we were mid-table and comfortable then a run of just two defeats in 10 would be very good at this level but we are in the bottom four and we have drawn too many of those games.

“We were a bit unlucky to have lost the two games we have and we should have gone on to win some of the games we have drawn, especially in the ones where we have taken the lead. We have let those leads slip and it has been frustrating.

“Some of the draws have been good points and have allowed us to tick over but we should have won at Southend and decisions went against us at Millwall. We have played reasonably well but we should have turned more of those draws into wins and those losses into draws.

“We have to find a way to make sure we start winning games. It’s good that we have been on a good run where we have become harder to beat but we wins now. We are still hanging in there and I think that we improve then we are more than capable of going on a little run of successive wins. Shrewsbury have managed it, Fleetwood have done it recently, so we have got to try and emulate that and if we can then that will give us a great chance.”
