Boss Demands Greater Concentration

4 March 2016

Steve Davis says Crewe have got to stop being our own worst enemy.

Steve Davis has demanded a higher level of concentration as Crewe go in search of upsetting league leaders Burton Albion this weekend. Crewe host Nigel Clough’s side aiming to win for the first time in six games. Results in recent weeks have not followed performances and Davis puts that down to a lack of concentration and individual errors costing us.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Burton, Steve said: “We have shown in the games that we are competing against the top teams in the league. We have only been on the receiving end of heavy defeats to Coventry and Peterborough this season, so we know we can compete. We have done fairly well against the top teams and the aim for us to do that again.

“We have done well enough to have claimed more points but we have let ourselves down at key moments in games. It was the same on Tuesday night. We were leading going into the final few moments and we have made a costly mistake again.

“It has been different players at different times this season but individual mistakes have been costly to us, especially in the later stages of match.

“That can be down to organisation and their concentration levels. The higher you go in the game, the more important it is that your concentration remains high throughout. It is a massive part of the game and you have to stay focussed for the 90 plus minutes.

“This certainly applies to the defenders. When I played in the Championship, you knew that if you switched off for a second you would be punished. It is always vitally important at whatever you play at.”
