Alex boss says he is benefitting from watching a feast of football at the Euros.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he is keeping a keen eye on the European Championships to see how the coaches are approaching matches.

The Alex boss has watched a large proportion of the games so far and he says that he always picking up new tactical ideas.

Steve says it is interesting to see how England have approached their three group games, as our opponents have been content to sit back and try to hit us on the counter-attack.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I’ve enjoyed the tournament so far and it should get even more interesting now we are in the knockout stage.

“You always learn new things by watching top level football. It is interesting to see how teams approach games and what they do tactically.

“Germany have operated with a false 9 and that is something we have tried in the past when Chuks (Aneke) was here. We have also done it on occasions with Ryan (Colclough) playing up there.

“The Italians have been hard to beat. They defend well as a unit and that stems from their continuity at both club and International level. They play with three centre-halves and they defend properly.

“I’ve been impressed with Poland and Croatia. They have surprised a few and are in my opinion, the dark horses.

“Teams like Albania and Iceland have been solid and have looked dangerous on the break. It has made for a good tournament and all of the teams are organised and try not to give a lot away.

He added: “It is terrific to see all the home nations through and it makes for an exciting final 16.”
