Roy Right To Select Rashford

1 June 2016

Steve Davis excited by the emergence of United teenager.

18-year-old striker Marcus Rashford has been rightly selected by Roy Hodgson according to Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis. The Alex boss has stated that age should be no barrier if the talent is there and as a big admirer of the Manchester United teenager he believes that Hodgson was right to include him in his final 23-man squad.

Rashford, 18, who has only really broken onto the scene in the second half of this season, has been named in the final squad alongside a fit-again Daniel Sturridge, Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere.

Ahead of the forthcoming European Championships, Steve told crewealex.net: “I am pleased that Roy (Hodgson) selected Rashford. He has shown that he is good enough, albeit over a short period of time.

“Age should not be a barrier because if you are good enough then it doesn’t matter how old you are.

“He has scored goals for Manchester United and proved that he can be a handful to some of the best defenders in the world. He has done exceptionally well and he is an exciting young talent.

He added: “Michael Owen did it at a World Cup and Rooney was the same age as Rashford when he went to the Euros and did well, so there is no reason why he cannot follow them.”
