Not Surprised To See Inman Move On

28 June 2016

Steve Davis on the departure of Brad Inman to Peterborough.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis admits he was not surprised to see Brad Inman sign for a League One club after his contract expired this summer. Inman, who was the club’s joint top scorer last season along with Marcus Haber with ten goals, signed for Peterborough United yesterday on a three-year contract.

Davis felt that Inman would leave the Alexandra Stadium after his most consistent season for the club - but he believes he will have to continue to show a high level of consistency to hold down a regular place with the Posh.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I was not surprised to see Brad move on. I thought he would join a League One club and Peterborough will be hoping to be challenging for promotion again next season.

“I don’t think it wouldn't have mattered what we could offer him because he felt it was time to move on. It will be interesting to see where they play him. He is versatile enough to play on the wing or as a number 10 but he will have to be consistent to hold down his place.

“It was only in his final year here that he found a good level of consistency. He didn’t do that in the first two years of his contract after we signed him. He couldn’t recapture the form he showed when he was here on loan. That is why we were prepared to pay the money we did for him. We thought it was a real investment at the time and we would be able to sell him but he never hit that form again until his final year.

“He has had his best season since he was here on loan. We know his strengths and his weaknesses and he showed glimpses of his ability for us. Maybe there is more to come from him on a consistent basis and if there is then Peterborough have a good player. “
