JC: "We Have To Produce Our Own Outstanding Players"

8 June 2016

James Collins belives that the club's Academy remains the best place for us to find quality.

First team coach James Collins believes that Crewe Alexandra will have to produce their own outstanding players due to the difficulties in attracting players from outside. Collins was disappointed to see the club lose out on the Morecambe wide man Jamie Devitt this week after the 25-year-old Irishman elected to join Carlisle United instead.

James told the club’s official web-site: “It is difficult for us to recruit really outstanding players from outside because they are usually beyond what we can afford, so we have to produce our own.

“That is what we have to continue to do. We are all about developing our own players and that has to be the attraction for the players we are trying to bring in as well.

“We also have to develop a winning mentality and start winning games on a more regular basis. That has to be our focus and we have to learn from some of the mistakes we made last season, especially late on in games.”
