Dario: "We Have Coped With Relegation Before"

15 June 2016

Dario Gradi says club fans have always had fair expectation levels.

Dario Gradi says that the club have to be ‘aware of the threat’ about dropping out of the English Football League. Dario, who previously led Crewe into the second tier of English football as manager believes that the Alex supporters have always had fair expectations and that we have to regroup and rebuilt following last season’s disappointing relegation.

The club’s director of football told crewealex.net: “We have experienced relegation before. I was relegated three times, and in those days there wasn’t much of a murmur or any crusade to get me sacked.

“It’s a club that has seen this before and where expectations of the fans are is reasonable. The big problem I had before was that we got dangerously close to playing out of the league altogether.

“Clubs bigger than us have gone out of the league in the past and have found it difficult to get back out again.

“We must be aware of that, not worry about it but be aware. We have no divine right.”

Dario added: “What the last two seasons have shown is that the team has not been good enough. We survived with five minutes left the season before and then finished bottom last season, so the fact is we didn’t have a good enough team.

“I’m sure there will be some team rebuilding.”
