Despite signing Lowe, James Collins admits that we need more goals in the team.

The club’s first team coach James Collins admits that we will need more goals in the team if our joint leading scorer from the previous season, Brad Inman elects to move on his summer.

The Alex have already released Marcus Haber at the end of the season and our other two main goalscorers last season, the on-loan Adam King and Ryan Colclough departed the club in January.

Colclough, 21, who netted eight goals in the first half of the season earned himself a swift to the eventual League One champions Wigan Athletic.

While Collins has hailed the capture of the experienced Ryan Lowe as a ‘terrific signing’, he says that we cannot solely rely on him for goals next season.

James told us: “We have bought Ryan into the club to score goals but we cannot just rely on him. We cannot rely on Ryan to get us 25, 30 goals next season.

“We need others to chip in. That may have to come from outside the club but we need our own to contribute as well. The midfield didn’t chip in with enough goals last season, so they will have to strive to be better.

“The young lads, such as Cooper, Ainley and Kirk have to add goals to the team and I don’t mean scoring the odd one from 25 yards, they need to get in the box more and hurt teams.

“We will be working on that and making them better at it. We need more goals and the challenge will be there for them.”
