Coach believes that the next stage of Guthrie's development is to become a leader.
First team coach James Collins says that defender Jon Guthrie has ‘shown the way’ by working hard to improve his game. Guthrie, who joined the club from village side Pewsey Vale back in 2012, has made that much progression that his Crewe team-mates voted him their Player-of–Season.
James told the club’s official web-site: “Jon has played both at centre-half and at left-back for us and he is the most improved player in the squad. He deserved his award and to get that recognition from his team-mates because I think he has been terrific for us.
“It has taken him a while to find his feet and really establish himself but he has done that now. He has had his ups and downs along the way and had to be patient but he is a great example to the younger players in the squad, that if you work hard you can improve.
“He has improved considerably and has taken what we have told him and he has taken the coaching on board. He is reaping the rewards of that.
“Now he has to become a leader. He is not an up and coming player now, he has established himself as a real first team player and he has to influence those around him.”
