Awards: Breakthrough Player Of The Season 2015/16

2 June 2016

Callum Ainley Your Winner

Callum Ainley has been chosen by you, the supporters, as the Club's Breakthrough Player of the Season for the 2015/16 season.

The 18-year-old enjoyed a whirlwind season, starting out in the Under 18's before excelling at each level, with it being capped off by a goal in a man of the match performance in the 3-1 victory over Doncaster in the final home game.

Thanks to your votes, Ainley has followed in the footsteps of past winners James Jones & Ben Garratt in being named Crewe Alexandra's up-and-coming winner.

He began the season with business as normal in Kenny Lunt's Under 18 side, but soon got into his stride, with a run of four goals in three games prompting Steve Davis to hand him a shock first team debut against Swindon as a late sub in early September.

Two further late substitute appearances followed in quick succession before Ainley was taken out of the first team fold & handed to Alex Morris to develop him further in the Under 21 set-up.

Goals & assists were the order of the day in the U21's and the midfielder broke back into the first team in late February at Chesterfield and didn't look back, going on to make a total of 17 appearances over the course of the season.
