Steve May Shuffle Pack For Nantwich

18 July 2016

Boss to assess squad again to decide minutes for each player.

Crewe Alexandra move on to local neighbours Nantwich Town for our next pre-season friendly on Tuesday night. Steve Davis has gone on record to suggest that he may juggle his team around slightly to make sure that the players get the required playing time ahead of the seasonal opener at Stevenage on 6th August.

Ahead of the trip to the Weaver Stadium on Tuesday night, Steve said: “We have a look at the squad and who needs game time. We have a record of how many minutes each player has played so far and we are mindful of the fact that have some have played more than other.

“Jon (Guthrie) has played two full games and I thought he was the best player against Wolves. He may need a bit of a rest.

“Ben Nugent and George Ray were not risked against Wolves because of little niggles. Ben had a knock on his knee and George has a sore hip flexor. It is nothing serious with them but it leaves us a bit short at centre-half. Hopefully they will be back in training this week.

“We will continue to build them gradually. Some will get 45 minutes, some an hour or so and some we may see how long they can stay out there.

“Nantwich are a good team and it will be a good test for us.”
