Steve: "Coops Can Be A Key Player For Us"

21 July 2016

Steve Davis challenges George Cooper to become more consistent.

Winger George Cooper can become a key part of the Crewe Alexandra side according to boss Steve Davis if he cannot continue to be a major threat in the final third. The youngster, 19, was Crewe’s best performer against local neighbours Nantwich Town on Tuesday evening, scoring the third goal in a comfortable 4-0 win.

Cooper also had a dubious goal ruled out for offside and had one cleared off the line as the Railwaymen enjoyed their fourth run out in pre-season.

Manager Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “We know the ability George has and that he can produce on his day. He just has to do that on a more consistent basis because we know we can create and score goals.

“If he can do that then he can become an important player for us and a key part of the team.

“No-one is guaranteed a starting place. No-one is there yet where they are the first name on the team-sheet. There are places up for grabs and it is no different with the wide positions.”
