Davis On Cooper Improvement

26 July 2016

Boss says winger has to keep on producing on a consistent level after promising pre-season.

Steve Davis has praised the contribution of George Cooper during pre-season and he has encouraged the Warrington-born youngster to continue to show that level of consistency. Davis has revealed that Cooper is winning the race to start the season at Stevenage on the opening day of the season, but he was warned the teenager about the danger of complacency.

Cooper is currently battling it out for a starting place with Academy graduates Callum Ainley and Charlie Kirk and now new loan signing Alex Kiwomya.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “George has been the best of that group and he would deserve his place. He is ahead of the other three at the moment but I’m sure we’ll see more of Alex as the season progresses.

“We need to see more from George and he has to keep going. I don’t want that complacency to creep into his game. Just because he is doing well and has started the last few games doesn’t mean he will be an automatic choice when the season kicks off.

“He has to keep on working hard, train well and play well.”
