Davis Looks To Improve Goal Threat

Steve says quick winger would give different dimension in the final third

Steve Davis is hopeful that landing a new winger this week will take some of the pressure off his new front two Ryan Lowe and Chris Dagnall.

The Crewe Alexandra boss is confident of securing the services of a quick winger to make his side more of a threat in the final third. He is after a pacey wide man who can get up in support of our experienced forwards and chip in with a number of assists and goals himself.

Ahead of tonight’s pre-season friendly against Nantwich, Steve said: “We cannot always rely on just the front two to score goals and create chances.

“We need others to chip in and be creative in the final third. We could do with the winger supporting the front two move and midfielders getting into the box more.

“We could also do with improving our set-piece ratio, they could be crucial to us next season. We didn’t look a threat from set-plays against Wolves on Friday and that needs to improve.

“The new winger would get us up the pitch and offer us something different in the final third. He is different to what we have and I’m sure he will make a difference to us.”
