Collins: "We Need To Improve Winning Mentality"

29 July 2016

First team coach believes Crewe have to learn how to see games through.

James Collins says Crewe Alexandra have to rediscover that winning mentality after letting a 1-0 lead slip at Altrincham and then seeing us go down 1-0 to Hednesford Town the following night.

The Alex first team coach appreciates that pre-season games are mostly about getting match fitness and sharpness but he was disappointed with the goals we have conceded this week. Crewe conceded from a set-piece free-kick against Altrincham and were then punished by a defensive mistake the following evening at Hednesford.

James told crewealex.net: “They have all been positive work-outs in pre-season and a good learning curve for the younger ones. It is all about being ready for the season but of course, you want to win every game.

“We were winning 1-0 at Altrincham and had worked hard for that lead. We have then conceded from a soft free-kick. It was a terrific delivery from the lad but we have lost him at the far post, so from going 1-0 up and looking comfortable, we ended up drawing the game.

“We have to learn to win games and see them through. If we cannot go on and win them then it is imperative that we don’t lose them.”
