Steve Davis closing in on centre-forward to team up with Lowe.

Steve Davis is confident of securing his third signing of the summer later today after conducting encouraging talks with a proven goalscorer over the last few days.

The Alex boss is after another forward to assist fellow newcomer Ryan Lowe and he is hoping to get the deal over the line. Lowe signed from Bury after a successful spell with us on loan last season. Defender Zoumana Bakayogo extended his stay with the club after signing for another 12-month period.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Hopefully we will get another one in. It is a forward and hopefully it will be an exciting one for the fans.

“He has a lot of experience and is a proven goalscorer. He has passed the 100 goals mark and if it happens, and it remains an if until it is signed then it would give us a potent force up there.

“With Ryan (Lowe) it would give us a partnership who have scored over 300 goals. Ryan has a great goals record but he cannot do it on his own and we couldn’t just rely on him.

“If we can get it done then that would be two proven goalscorers and then it is up to others to chip in as well.”
