Alex boss gives his post match reaction from Gigg Lane after goalless draw.
He added: "Marcus then made a great late run down the side, he bullied himself into a position to get a shot off and credit to their defender to get back and get if off the line. We could have nicked it right at the death but it was another step for us in the right direction."
"Saying that we have two great chances. Ryan showed a great bit of skill to spin one defender and go past another, he then tried to guide it in and didn't quite manage it. It was a super effort.
"The only disappointing aspect of our play was the quality in the final third of the pitch. I thought other than Marcus, who did everything we asked of him, we were looking for a bit more quality from our creative three behind him.
"We knew what to expect from them and there was nothing that was going to surprise us because we had prepared well and we stood up to them and played with that high line to make sure Clarke and Pope were not as close to our goal as they would have liked. Ben and Semi did well and it was a real boost for us to show that other side to our game when you are forced to dig in.
"Of course, they had their chances as us and Pope and Clarke are a handful but I thought we coped well. We rode our luck at times and the centre-halves played them well. They hit the post and had one or two decent chances but we dug in, battled and got a good result.
"They started better than us in the first 10 minutes but after we came through that we came more into it and had some chances. We could have nicked at the death through Marcus who had that late effort off the line.
The point moved Crewe off the bottom of the table with Colchester United replacing us. After a hard fought goalless draw, Steve told us: "It was a real battling performance from us and we showed some resolve and courage to keep a clean sheet and that is another point for us. It is important. We haven't been able to win either of the last two games but we haven't lost them either. We showed that fight we will need to get out of the situation and the back four and the goalkeeper were terrific for us.
Steve Davis praised the work ethic and determination of his players as they held out to collect a point at Bury. Crewe rode their luck at times at Gigg Lane but could have actually snatched all the points when Marcus Haber had a late effort cleared off the line.
