Steve: "We Have To Fight To Give Ourselves Hope"

20 January 2016

Steve Davis says that with over 60 points still to play our greatest escape can still occur.

Despite almost every pundit in the land writing off our chances of surviving in League One, Steve Davis says that with over 60 points still to play for, it is still achievable. The Alex boss appreciates that we have to remain in touch with those clubs directly ahead of us in the table with Saturday’s 4-3 defeat at Swindon leaving us seven points adrift of Fleetwood and out of the danger zone.

Ahead of this weekend’s home game with Wigan, Steve told us: “We don’t want to be battling against relegation every season. We want to be doing better in this league and looking up the table but we have had three tough seasons down there.

“We have survived on the final day twice and now we have to try and get back into that type of position again, to give ourselves a chance.

“Everyone has to play their part. We have to stick together. We will need nine or ten wins but there are still 21 games to go and over 60 points to play for, so we have to remain positive because it is still achievable.

“I know we have only won five games this season but we can’t change what has gone. We can only look forward and make sure we focus on what we need to.”
