Steve: "Our Own Fault We Have Dropped 10 Points"

19 January 2016

Steve Davis knows Crewe have shot themselves in the foot after having control in games.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says that it’s ‘our own fault’ for not being further up the League One table. The Alex have lost a possible extra 8 points from conceding goals in the final ten minutes of games and have dropped points in games where we have scored the first goal on four other occasions to Bury, Swindon (home), Doncaster Rovers and Fleetwood.

Davis spoke of ‘mental scarring’ that has really risen since we lost 3-2 at Doncaster just ahead of Christmas after taking the lead ourselves in the final minute.

The Alex boss admits that those small margins are proving immensely frustrating as we aim to move out of the bottom four.

He told us: “I hate losing games, any games, but more so when we have scored the first goal and look in control. We have had too many games like that this season and we only ourselves to blame that we don’t have more points and are sitting a lot better in the league.

“If we had those extra ten points or so then everyone would be saying we have had a decent season, but those small margins have made the difference. When you go in front in game it should be enough not to lose and when you have a two goal lead then it should definitely be enough.

“We have allowed teams to come back at us and enabled them to score too easily against us and from looking okay and having a control on the game, we then lose that control and It has proved to be very costly in regards to our points tally.”
