Guthrie On Entering Vital Stage Of The Season

21 January 2016

Jon Guthrie says dressing room are determined to catch those ahead of us first and foremost.

With the determined Zoumana Bakayogo earning himself a short-term contract and youngster Perry NG performing admirably for the Under-21s, the club’s current left-back Jon Guthrie fully appreciates that he will have to play consistently well to retain his place.

The 23-year-old Guthrie, who joined the club back in the summer of 2012 from non-league side Pewsey Vale, has enjoyed his most consistent season in the first team, featuring in 21 games so far. He has shown his versatility by operating in his more preferred central role but is always willing to help the team by switching over to the left hand side.

Jon told crewealex.net: “It is a very important stage to the season and we know we have to start picking up some wins to get out of it. We are determined to try and put an extended run together so we can catch those teams above us.

“We have had some low points over the last few weeks, especially at Doncaster and then Swindon last week but it is important not to look back and now look forward. There are plenty of points still to play for but we know we have to improve.”

On his own personal campaign, Jon said: “I have been relatively pleased with my performances this season but I know there is room for improvement. I am always trying to look to improve my game and the manager and staff are always on to us about becoming consistent. That is what every footballer strives for.

He added: “The competition for places helps us. You know you have to play well or there will be someone in the squad ready to step in.”
