Boss challenges Academy youngsters to grab their chance against Nottingham Forest today

Crewe Alexandra’s Under-21s are in action against Nottingham Forest this afternoon with possible places in Steve Davis’ first team squad for the trip to Bury tomorrow evening up for grabs.

The game is taking place at the club’s Reaseheath training ground (1pm) with the likes of Perry NG, Joe Howell, Callum Ainley and Callum Saunders all in action.

“Having four games in the space of seven days is not ideal but we know the situation in relation to the Under-21s, ‘says Steve.

“We have a few out injured and it is a question of wrapping some of them up in cotton wool to make sure we have enough numbers. The ones who will play today will make up the majority of the bench tomorrow night and that is never ideal.

“It will be a chance for one or two of them to step up to the plate. If some of the youngsters can play well then they may earn their chance to be included for the Bury game.

“There may be one or two who could earn a squad number and be included in the squad.”
