Davis: "Performance Like That Gives Us Hope"

Manager pleased with showing against high-flying Wigan Athletic.

Steve Davis says his players thoroughly deserved their point against promotion candidates Wigan Athletic at the weekend. The Railwaymen battled back from going a goal down from Reece Wabara to secure a share of the spoils in what was a fairly even contest. Brad Inman was on target for Crewe with his third goal in two games and Davis was pleased with the overall performance against the in-form Latics.

The Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “I was pleased with the performance and the result. I thought we deserved a point for our effort and it was nice to get a reward for a good performance.

“We have played reasonably well at times this season and got not reward, so it was nice for the players to get that on Saturday. We managed to put two halves together and they worked hard and concentrated because Wigan came here and played football as well.

“It was a good game, an open game and I think it was entertaining. Maybe Wigan were a bit surprised. They probably saw the Coventry result and thought they could come here and do something similar but the players were determined to show that we were much better than that.

He added: “Those type of performances we saw at the weekend, gives us hope and it is now about going that one step further and getting that first win again.
