Steve Davis says he is delighted that young George Cooper has signed a new deal with the club
Steve Davis says he is delighted that youngster George Cooper has committed his future to Crewe Alexandra for the next couple of seasons. Cooper has signed a new and improved deal that could see him through the summer of 2018.
After securing his future, the club’s first year pro is aiming to make a significant impact during the second half of the season. The 19-year-old forward has made 14 appearances this season but has been restricted to 3 starts in all competitions.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I am pleased that George has signed his new deal. It is always good to sign our own players, who have been with us for a long time. Extending his contract has been discussed at board level for a couple of months because he is one we want to keep and develop.
“There is something there with George. We know he has a great talent and we know there is more to come from him. He will become a better player and we forget how young he is. He is still a first year pro.
“He burst onto the scene very quickly and maybe he thought it was going to be easy but it is not. Once you become a threat like he did and the opposition begin to realise your potential then it becomes harder.
The boss added: “Hopefully, being out of the team for a spell will have done him good. He knows that he has to work hard and improve. If he realises his potential then we are confident that he will go on to bigger things and become a really good player.”
