Cooper On Security Of New Contract

21 January 2016

Winger George Cooper on why securing his future at the club will help his confidence.

George Cooper believes that securing his future at Crewe Alexandra will only help him confidence wise. The 19-year-old became another Academy graduate to commit his future with the club he joined as an aspiring toddler.

The talented winger has struggled to hit the heights of his first season with the first team but he came on in the second half against Swindon Town last weekend and he is hoping that he can more frequent game time in the remaining few months of the season.

George told Crewe Alex PlayerHD: “I’ve been here a long time now since the age of five or six, so to add another two to three years onto that is good for me personally, but more importantly now I’ve got to think about getting into the team and helping the boys.

“I’ve had my ups and downs. I came onto the scene quite early, grabbed a couple of goals and then I’ll admit I’ve struggled recently. In training, I’ve been knuckling down more and hopefully I’ll get my chance soon and make it count.

“It’s massive for me this deal. I can’t wait for every day and hopefully I’ll be in the team for the Wigan game and then make it count.

“Having your future sorted helps massively. I can’t really explain but it’s given me confidence now that the gaffer believes in me, James (Collins) believes in me, Alex (Morris) believes in me, so on a personal note it’s helped me massively.”
